Project Description

Darren Pritchard has been creating dance works for traditional and non-traditional theatre settings for ten years, making and performing in galleries, a church, hotels and both urban and rural landscapes, even in the old Sale of the Century TV studio. As Company Fierce, Darren was best known for Susan and Darren, in which he performed alongside his mother. The show toured internationally. He is also known for Gulliver’s Boom Box with Walk the Plank; plus, to date, 5 outings for One, a solo performance installation and Duet to Music made for Urban Moves.
Body of Light is his latest work, and is the first under Darren’s new company Darren Pritchard Dance. It is a thirty-minute contemporary dance solo performed by Adam Russell which uses readily available consumer technology to translate movement into beautiful projected imagery, in much the same as a painter uses brushstrokes.Body of Light is a collaboration with Production Designer Marcel LeNormand, a digital artist from Guernsey where the work was originally developed. The artistic potential of the technology also generates opportunities for audience participation post-show, when members of the public are invited to generate visuals through their own movement in an extended ‘stay and play’ session.Body of Light is a fully tourable and self-contained work. It is suitable for arts and non-arts spaces, is festival-ready and and has applications in education and health settings; Body of Light was in residence at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in autumn 2015.
“I think you did it brilliantly, I’m not a technology lover and you got me excited!!”
