For many years a successful performer with Silesian Dance Theatre, Jasmin Vardimon and CandoCo, Victoria Fox Markiewicz draws on all these influences to combine a punchy movement style with an equality agenda. Still I Rise is the company’s first piece, inspired by Maya Angelou’s poem of the same name. The dance channels the resilient, unapologetic quality of Angelou’s words into the unflinching, relentless, movement of TRIBE//’s five strong female ensemble, each with their own unique physicality and presence. “Within this work I had a desire to see female dancers really owning the stage, to take the space. Raw and physical, to subtle yet extreme, I want to see women enable each other and represent the full range of their strengths, virtuosic to vulnerable, the realities in which we live and the journey we continue.” Victoria Fox Markiewicz

“Packed with both physical invention and emotional intensity” Sanjoy Roy

“very beautiful and cinematic …like in Handmaids Tale – you’ve got to hold on to the last fragment of hope, that there’s a way out, a hope of change.”  audience member
