West Midlands dance company Linden Dance promotes positivity, individuality and empowerment, championing diverse perspectives, backgrounds and creative voices in a strong, physical movement language which brings together Afro-fusion and Contemporary dance styles.
The company’s new outdoor dance piece CAGED takes as its starting point themes of loneliness and isolation. Performing inside and around a 3m high metal “birdcage”, the four performers explore ambiguous worlds of entrapment and safety, a delicate balance that ultimately leads to feelings of hope and reconciliation. The emotive themes are reflected in an athletic, daring physicality and a punchy soundtrack.
CAGED joined Linden Dance‘s repertoire earlier this year, booking alongside the company’s fast-paced duet UNBO☒ED, an exploration of identity and the assumptions we make about one another. Both pieces are available for bookings in 2026 and 2027.
Linden Dance‘s new research project Beautiful Future, inspired by Rob Hopkins’ book How to Fall in Love with the Future, takes a positive and imaginative approach to the climate emergency, highlighting joy and creativity as the biggest weapons against eco-dread and anxiety. The company is eventually looking to create a piece for three performers on a rotating sundial set.
