Under the artistic direction of Laura Kenyon, WomanEwer provides a connection between women through the arts and offers a safe space to explore ideas around discrimination, abuse and violence using movement, voice and visual art.
We Are Not Beautiful is WomanEwer’s vibrant and colourful new full length contemporary dance production which shines light on the objectification of women through cultural and social norms at the heart of the beauty and fashion industries. Inspired by the protest slogan “We Are Not Ugly, We Are Not Beautiful, We’re Angry!” used by protesters at the Miss World Contest in 1970, the production recreates some of the narratives applied to the female body, and the clothes designed to be worn by women. With a diverse cast of five women, We Are Not Beautiful is highly physical, loud and bold, celebrating sisterhood, liberation and strength. We are Not Beautiful premieres in 2026 and tour in 2027.
We Are Not Beautiful is WomanEwer’s follow up to the company’s powerful and deeply affecting debut production I Have a Bruise, an autobiographical advocacy piece for survivors of sexual abuse to have their own voice.
KAH’LOCA is an hispanic-styled outdoor work of dance-theatre, scaleable for four-six women. Dressed in bright colours with flamboyant funky headpieces, the performers use a vigorous movement style and their voices to challenge the narrative of what it means to be a woman and bring to public attention the scale of violence against women. KAH’LOCA is touring in Summer 2026.
