Akeim Toussaint Buck is an award-winning interdisciplinary performer and maker, born in Jamaica and raised in England. Moving, thought provoking, accessible and free-spirited, the work reflects socio-political issues, bringing together dance and other art forms such as creative writing, film, poetry, beat-box, singing and acting to tell stories with a humanitarian focus.
Windows of Displacement is a fiercely moving dance solo which draws on Toussaint’s own history, integrating a richly expressive physicality with spoken word, tender folksong and visual image to reflect on universal ideas of migration, home, border and identity.
Free is an adaptive, immersive performance in a dub reggae party setting which gets the audience on their feet to share with the five dancers their message of dance as liberation. A must for reggae lovers, the cast perform a contemporary-infused version of skank dancing against a loud, bass-heavy recorded soundtrack of reggae and jazz, written and sung by Buck himself for the show with his band, the Magnificence. The mood is warm and communal, using the power of collective movement to amplify its message of hopeful freedom and defiant joy.
