One of the most distinctive voices in British dance theatre, Luca Silvestrini’s company Protein uses a blend of original choreography, storytelling, music and social commentary to nurture an inclusive, participatory experience for audiences. Their critically acclaimed and award-winning productions for theatre settings include LOL (lots of love), Border Tales, May Contain Food and The Little Prince.

Protein’s first theatre production for seven years is a new dance-theatre adaptation of Mozart’s opera, The Magic Flute, to be created this autumn specially for children and their families.  STDMA is currently taking bookings for Autumn and Christmas 2026.

The Magic Flute tells the story of Prince Tamino and Papageno’s quest to save Pamina, the kidnapped daughter of the Queen of the Night. To bring this classical story to audiences unfamiliar with opera, Protein’s The Magic Flute will focus on the adventurous, dark, humorous, and magical elements of the original story, replacing references to Masonic ideology and Enlightenment philosophy with universal principles of love, friendship, truth and peace that win over hatred, revenge and selfishness.

With four multi-talented performers in the cast, The Magic Flute will be brought to life using Protein’s playful mix of dancing, storytelling, singing and stunning visuals, with rearranged Mozart and new music by composer Frank Moon, design by Dick Bird, creative captions/video design by Douglas Baker and lighting by Rachel Shipp.
